S&T optimises Danone Russia’s reporting system

Faster data analyses facilitate strategic business planning

14. February 2008. S&T Russia has optimised Danone Russia’s analysis and reporting system. The recently completed project offering business intelligence consultation and implementation was worth several hundred thousand euros. Data analysis and reporting now takes place with the help of a professional system that is four times faster than before and, as a result, Danone Russia’s management receives up-to-date, decision-relevant information in an appropriately analysed and processed form, which serves as the basis for strategic company management.
The multinational beverage and food company Danone, founded in 1919 in Barcelona and today headquartered in Paris, began operating in Russia in the 1990’s. Today in Russia, two dairy processing factories and the well-known ”Bolshevik” biscuit factory are part of the Danone group of companies. The company employs 92,000 people worldwide in 120 countries, 2,500 of which are in Russia. In 2006, Danone achieved sales of 13 billion euros and as well as being international leader in the field of milk products and still mineral water. Danone also owns well-known brands such as Fruchtzwerge or Activia. Danone utilises MicroStrategy as its data analysis and reporting system internationally. S&T is MicroStrategy’s leading partner in Russia and Danone’s long-standing IT service provider, and was thus given the task of optimising this business intelligence solution. “Before the optimisation, we used Excel as a reporting system, which drew its data from the centralized ERP system in France. As well as the obvious time delay, we also experienced difficulties in the form of irregular and erroneous reports. Now we have a modern, fast, real-time system, which can analyse complex data from different sources, with differing structures and process it for management and specialist departments", so the project manager of Danone Russia.

Business intelligence system leads to improvement in data quality

With the new system, Danone Russia collects data from different areas, especially from distribution, logistics, controlling, quality management as well as from the finance department, and processes this data for the benefit of its management. Together with sales and client data, information relating to quality parameters and irregularities in production and logistics is collected, as well as financial figures. S&T then created a logical model and developed the ETL* processes, installed the necessary hardware and software, and undertook localization and training so that Danone employees could oversee the system themselves and develop it further. Now the MicroStrategy system is used for all analysis and reporting, providing the benefits of high quality data and fast processing. “Complex data is now evaluated four times faster than was possible prior to this project. The Danone management team can access reports not only in the office but also on the road and have the latest real-time information. Danone has now fully achieved the improvement in performance that it was aiming for", explains Christian Rosner, CEO of S&T.
